ROCK STEADY BOXING SRQ

Fighting Back Against Parkinson's

Non-contact boxing inspired classes can reverse, reduce and even delay the symptoms of PD.

We are learning every day that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their quality of life and even build strength, flexibility and speed! By exercising with coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better.

Rock Steady Boxing SRQ uses the fundamentals of boxing training in addition to Parkinson’s specific exercises to fight back against Parkinson’s Disease. These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier and happier life.

Why Rock Steady Boxing SRQ?

Boxers condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, balance, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength to defend against and overcome opponents. At Rock Steady the opponent is Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s causes a loss in many of the same elements that boxers condition to improve. And published medical research has shown that forced, intense or rigorous exercise can reduce, reverse and delay symptoms of Parkinson’s.

The Parkinson’s patient is encouraged to participate in exercise programs that focus on achieving higher training intensity beyond what they may self-select.

This may result in neuroprotection and thereby slow, reverse or stop the progression of symptoms.

Gross motor movements, balance, core, strength and rhythm could favorably impact range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, balance and activities of daily living.

Boxing training incorporates total body movement, upper extremity punching motion and lower extremity footwork in multiple directions.

These actions used in boxing are like the movements Parkinson’s patients are fighting to maintain; spinal flexibility, stepping in multiple directions and faster movements.

These counter movements to Parkinson’s symptoms are an effective method for improving balance, gait and quality of life.
